Amazon Announces E-Book Sales Overtake Paper Books
Amazon revealed that for every 100 print books they sell, they sell 114 e-books meaning that e-books have now taken over as the most popular form of reading in a publishing market which continues to grow.
Since the launch of the Kindle by Amazon 2 years ago, the retail giants have been aware of a shift in the percentage of e-book sales compared to the classic printed books which as of this month has tipped in favour of the digital copies.
Amazon revealed that for every 100 print books they sell, they sell 114 e-books meaning that e-books have now taken over as the most popular form of reading in a publishing market which continues to grow.
Along with the news that e-books have taken over as top seller, Amazon also announced that Kindle owners buy 4 times more books than they did before they owned a the device. This shows that the introduction of the Kindle has proved to be a long term money earner for Amazon, with the money from selling the e-book readers bringing in a huge profit in the short term, but with the added boost of increased book sales offering long term income, Kindle's are set to make Amazon a lot of money for years to come.
Kindles and other e-book readers have taken big steps in getting people reading more frequently and therefore spending more money on literature. This isn't just for e-books either, print books have also seen an increase in sales, proving that despite what many believe, they are by no means a dying format.
This business surge has caused an increase in self-published book sales, as the e-book marketplace offers a great way to start a business, as they offer 70% royalties to the writers of each novel that is sold. This 70% is not the only benefit though as publishing an e-book on Amazon means that writers can avoid a lot of the costs it would take to physically print each book with no guarantee of sales.
